History of Swinging

Reference: Swinging

It is highly assumed that the need for swinging began amongst American Military bases or communities in the 1950s. Due to the mortality rate of servicemen being high, a close bond between the men arose with the implication that they would protect and care for all the wives as their own, both emotionally and sexually if the husbands were away or lost.

In the UK, swingers ‘clubs’ grew among neighbourhood swingers groups. At the time, they were known as ‘Wife Swapping‘ groups.

Terry Gould’s research concluded that ‘couples swing in order to not cheat on their partners’.
